One of the best Chuck Jones cartoons comes on tonight on Cartoon Network, 8pm ET. "The Bear That Wasn't", which was a story written by Frank Tashlin (who also used to be an animator and animation director at the infamous Termite Terrace with Chuck Jones during the 40s), is actually a pretty profound statement on personal identity and how it is shaped by outside forces. A factory is built around this sleeping bear. When he wakes up, the factory foreman assumes that this bear is just a another factory worker, who for some reason is wearing a fur coat, and badly needs a shave. The bear is absolutely unable to convince anyone that he really is a bear.
I probably gave away too much of the story, but my seven regular readers should see this cartoon. This is my television recommendation for the night!
