Here is a stark example of how extremely scattered and localized summertime thunderstorms can be. opalcat was just on the western edge of a slow moving thunderstorm cell. I, who lives but 10 miles away from her to the east saw absolutely no rain whatsoever. However, split the difference, and you have Fair Oaks, where there was flooding, hail, and a road closure due to power lines being down.
Also unique for the storm was that it moved to the south, rather than the east. That's why I didn't get any here, and that the Dulles Toll Road was a better route to take returning from Chantilly (rather than 28 south to 66).
