Not cute!

This is why I should get my blog back up. (I hate that word, by the way.) This is not cute! (For those who are wondering, those are fake explosives around that little girl's stomach.) This is from a protest in Berlin. Parents, you do not encourage your little children to blow themselves and other innocents up. And it's not cute to turn your children into political statements.

I just needed to vent.

a) Saw that picture and shuddered.

b) If you hate the word "blog," just stope shortening it and call it your "weblog." Mine still says "blah blah blog" across the top, but only because I'm hopelessly lazy.

Did you program your guestbooks and stuff, or is that all provided by some sort of a weblog host?

Comment system.
(3) I set up my blog using Movable Type, which came with a system which lets people post comments to individual entries (like LiveJournal). For that to work, (since I'm poor) I needed to host my blog on a server with Perl. However, getting the damn thing set up on Spaceports was a pain.

(2) I know, but too many people are calling it a blog now that only nuclear plague will get people to stop.

(1) That picture continues to disgusted me. I can't say much on the problems in the Mideast because there is so much dirty pool on both sides. But celebrating people who deliberately kill themselves and innocents just strikes me as instinctually wrong.

Re: Comment system.
I am a relative neophyte, but I code my stupid, pathetic weblog by hand...and you have just finally cleared up for me the reason why one usually has to pay for Perl capability.

So if I want neat-o keen features like guestbooks or comments, I'm going to have to figure out another way to do it. Not a bad idea to put this brain to a little bit of use, though.

Couldn't agree more on the Middle East. I'm Jewish (by heredity), so I keep sort of wanting to "side" with Israel...but it seems as though everyone over there has serious dementia. There ARE no "good guys."

Yeah, you get to do cool stuff like host message boards with cgi-bin access. But those things are resourse and bandwidth hogs, so you have to be willing to pay for that stuff. Some sites like Spaceports and ProHosting will give you CGI-access for free, but you get what you pay for.

Dream Hosting I hear is good (read: cheap) for students starting out vanity sites.

Re: Comment system.
I'll stop after this (since it's gone way off of your initial LJ entry). Mine's only a vanity site in that I think someone else might have an interest in a link I've put up so, fortunately, guestbooks and message boards are not remotely a priority. They wanna talk to me; they can email me.

Thank you for the extended dialogue.
