Goodbye, Columbia

I have no excuse for posting this before leaving my condolences to the lost crew, or the like, but I don't have the words right now to say anything. But one thing that may get lost among the investigations and finger pointing is that the Space Shuttle may not have ever been been sea-worthy. Gregg Easterbrook, who penned a quickie piece for Time Magazine against the shuttle, noted back in 1980 for the Washington Monthly that the Columbia may turn out to be a death trap. Twenty three years ago, they had problems with the insulation and the tiles, problems that many currently suspect led to Saturday's tragedy.
