Perhaps we are being left behind. . .

Why is it South Korea who was able to clone stem cells first and not us? Perhaps the religious right holds too much veto power over acceptable areas of research. Perhaps favoring tax cuts over education and research is a akin to mortgaging the future to gratify us now. Perhaps we should just call it outsourcing research and call it a day.

Perhaps the Koreans just worked harder and got some lucky breaks.

We've had the technology to do the same for ages.

This issue really pisses me off. Congress has stopped any research that will kill an embryo a few minutes old, yet they haven't also outlawed fertility clinics that create dozens of embryos that grow to be much older than that in order to impregnate women with at least one of them.

This is total hypocrisy and it's nonsensical hypocrisy.

There's a part of me that suspects that if congress were to attempt to outlaw the same use of embryos in fertility clinics, that the outcry from women's groups would put an end to this discrepancy in "ethics".

We can't "kill" embryoes to cure diseases but we can "kill" dozens to produce one child.
